Hop the ferry to Governors Island and be prepared for a virtual trip to New Orleans as the sounds and smells of the Big Easy come to NYC for the inaugural Nolafunk Crawfish & Music Fest. At the waterfront Governors Island Beach Club, you’ll enjoy authentic New Orleans second line, funk, jazz, soul and hip-hop sounds — along with the opportunity to dig into a tasty crawfish platter (which can either be pre-purchased with your ticket or bought onsite while supplies last). The headlining Rebirth Brass Band has won a Grammy for its lively take on second line, but the Nola-bred group is probably best known for its central role on the HBO series Treme. Joining the RBB will be funk-rockers Bonerama, who mix originals and New Orleans traditional songs with brass-driven covers by everyone from the Grateful Dead to Black Sabbath, and funky guitarist Billy Iuso & Restless Natives. DJ Logic and the High and Mighty Brass Band will open the show.
