Free President’s Day Walking Tour
SE corner of 2nd Ave. & 60th St., Manhattan
1pm (approx. 4 hours long)

Join the Walk Exchange this Monday, February 18th, for a special President’s Day walk. We will head to Roosevelt Island to explore the recently opened Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park. Originally announced in 1973, the park was derailed by the subsequent fiscal crisis, and wasn’t completed for over thirty years. Seminal architect Louis I. Kahn, who believed that “architecture is the thoughtful making of spaces”, completed the original park design shortly before his death. The design was found in his pockets when he was discovered in Penn Station in 1974 following a fatal heart attack.

Our walk will take us over the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, across the Roosevelt Island Footbridge, and end with with a ride on the Roosevelt Island Tramway. If there’s interest, we might take a detour by the mysterious Blackwell Island Lighthouse on the north end of the island.
