See the Academy award-nominated documentary feature film, 5 Broken Cameras, now playing at Symphony Space. This New York Times critics’ pick is a first-hand account of non-violent resistance in Bil’in, a West Bank village threatened by encroaching Israeli settlements. Shot almost entirely by Palestinian farmer Emad Burnat, who bought his first camera in 2005 to record the birth of his youngest son, the footage was later turned into this documentary by co-directors Guy Davidi and Burnat. Structured around the violent destruction of Burnat’s video cameras, the film follows one family’s extraordinary experience over five years in a village facing constant turmoil.
