Red Hook Benefit Show: Kotorino / Sweet Soubrette / Charming Disaster
Jalopy Theatre (315 Columbia St., Brooklyn)
Parlor-rock” band Kotorino will join forces with “vaudeville pop” group Sweet Soubrette at Red Hook’s Jalopy Theatre on Dec 9 for a show to benefit the Red Hook Volunteers, a group of first responders, educators, and residents dedicated to the sustainable reconstruction of Red Hook after the devastating floods of Hurricane Sandy.
Sweet Soubrette recently released a hurricane-inspired single, “Port in a Storm,” to raise funds for citywide hurricane recovery, but both Brooklyn-based bands wanted to do something more to aid local relief efforts. Jalopy’s theater and music school building was spared by the storm, and the venue has become a hub for coordinating community recovery efforts in Red Hook.
Charming Disaster, a collaborative songwriting project by Kotorino band leader Jeff Morris and Sweet Soubrette front woman Ellia Bisker, will open with a set of duets featuring songs about murder, monsters, auto theft, ghosts, and carnival performers.
