Wednesday, October 5th: ‘The Gods of Times Square’

The Gods of Times Square
Spectacle Theater (124 S. 3rd St., Brooklyn)

For a six-year period (92-98) Richard Sandler documented a Times Square that no longer exists – a forum for congregants to air their thoughts and blow off a little steam, to rant about religion on one corner and buy sex on another. Gone now are the mom and pop stores squeezed out by a real estate gold rush. Gone too are many of the free spirits who stood on the soapbox. The fabled “white way” now plays host to new gods: Mickey, Minnie and Goofy on one corner, Bugs Daffy and Porky on the other…. God help Times Square! The filmmaker will be on hand for a discussion after the film
