DocuClub is Arts Engine’s monthly film screening series of works-in-progress documentaries. This month, see a rough cut of Finding Carlton by Susheel Kurien. The film tells the story of a bygone age of jazz in India through the moving portrait of one of its last survivors, the bebop guitarist Carlton Kitto. Weaving verite scenes of Carlton’s life struggles with archival material and poignant encounters with other artists, the film uncovers an untold story of cultural cross-pollination.
Post-screening discussion moderated by Somi Roy, a film and media curator specializing in Asian, Asian American, and non-fiction films.
