Mel Rodriguez of Bike the Bronx will lead a bicycle tour along the Bronx River Greenway, from the mouth of the river at Sound View Park on the Long Island Sound to the present source of the river at the Kensico Reservoir.
Bronx historian Stephen DeVillo will discuss the history of the Bronx River and explain how it went from a possible source for NYC drinking water to being labeled, “an open sewer.” The river has made a comeback since the days of reckless dumping and does support many forms of aquatic life like Alewife Herring and even a beaver named “Jose.”
Come be awed by the beauty of the river in many locations like the Bronx River Park and the New York Botanical Garden.
The tour will last about 5 hours and will cover about 30 miles on greenway and streets. Participants are welcome to take Metro North back home or bike as they wish.
