The premier celebration of creativity in Brooklyn’s most interesting neighborhood is back for its fifth year! Bushwick Open Studios 2011, presented by Arts in Bushwick, is the biggest yet, featuring more than 350 shows in 130 buildings over four square miles of Bushwick, parts of East Williamsburg, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Ridgewood.
BOS ‘11 will feature art not only in studios, but also galleries, local businesses, community organ…izations, libraries, sidewalks, historic sites, parks, RVs and a variety of other locations. The festival will showcase a wide range of artistic forms, including visual art, performance art, design and media, lectures and readings, yoga, religious observances, farming, happenings, tours, spelunking and augmented reality interventions.
BOS ‘11 will kick off the evening of June 3rd with a Launch Party at Pine Box Rock Shop. The festivities will continue until throughout the weekend, with most shows open from 12-7pm. On June 4-5th, the BOS Music Festival, hosted at Goodbye Blue Monday and Lone Wolf, will showcase local musicians.The weekend finishes off with a closing party at Lone Wolf with DJs and drink specials.
As part of the festival, AIB will also be hosting Rules of Engagement: Lessons from Five Years of Organizing Artists in Bushwick, a panel discussion about the arts and community engagement, featuring local leaders from non-profits, government, and the arts community. The discussion will be held on Saturday, June 4th at 3pm at the Bushwick Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library (340 Bushwick Avenue).
