Time: 12:00 am - 6:30 pm
Location: Lower East Side Tenement Museum (103 Orchard St., Manhattan)
This documentary film features the story of five young immigrants coming of age at the International High School at Lafayette in Brooklyn. The filmmakers will screen a portion of the film, and then join their student subjects in a discussion on the experience of growing up as an immigrant in America as they strive to master English, adapt to life with families they haven’t seen in years, and create a future in a new land. Sociologist Phil Kasinitz, author of Inherting the City: The Children of Immigrants Come of Age, will also join the conversation.
This event is co-sponsored by Facing History and Ourselves.
