Based on a real 1972 bank robbery at a Chase Bank in Gravesend, this drama chronicles a heist gone terribly wrong. Sonny (Al Pacino) and his slow-witted buddy, Sal (John Cazale) botch the robbery, which Sonny stages in order to pay for his lover’s gender reassignment surgery. Sonny and Sal take hostages; cops swarm the streets; a large Sonny-sympathetic crowd gathers to watch and the media arrive to complete the circus. Curated and hosted by Glenn Kenny. Dir. Sidney Lumet. (1975; 125 min)
