Unusual Illustrated Maps of New York City

    Date: 09/19/2017

    Time: 6:00 pm

Location: New York Public Library, Stephen A. Schwarzman Building (5th Ave. & 42nd St., Manhattan)

    Price: Free, RSVP here

Guest curator Katharine Harmon, author of You Are Here NYC: Mapping the Soul of the City, will be joined in conversation by Rick Meyerowitz, illustrator, humorist, and author of Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead, a history of National Lampoon magazine. They’ll talk about the uses of imagery and humor in maps, and how the language of maps can enhance illustration. To accompany the lecture, selections of maps that couldn’t make it into the final exhibit will be pulled from the Map Division's collections and will be out on display for a one-night-only experience. Spanning 180 years, they reflect the artistry and inventiveness of their creators.
