Tuesday, October 15th: ‘TESTO JUNKIE: Sex, Drugs, and Biopolitics in the Pharmacopornographic Era’

    Date: 10/15/2013

    Time: 7:00 pm

Location: Bluestockings (172 Allen St., Manhattan)

    Price: Free

The highly-anticipated translation of this major work of contemporary critical gender theory is available in English for the first time. In many ways TESTO JUNKIE is a continuation of Foucault’s The History of Sexuality, exploring how gender and sexuality are manufactured, distributed, and consumed in an era of synthesized hormones and a multi-billion dollar porn industry. In the tradition of French feminism, author Beatriz Preciado uses her own body as a site of interrogation by taking testosterone each day for a year. Preciado has become one of the leading thinkers in the study of gender and sexuality. S/he teaches political history of the body, gender theory and history of performance at Université Paris VIII and s/he is the director of the Independent Studies Program of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelone.
