Temple Emanu-El is pleased to host this special event celebrating the 80th year of literary legend Philip Roth. Broadway and Hollywood stars Alec Baldwin, John Rothman and Frances Sternhagen will read opening passages of The Plot Against America, American Pastoral and Portnoy’s Complaint. Mr. Roth will be in attendance.
PHILIP ROTH won the Pulitzer Prize for American Pastoral in 1997. In 1998 he received the National Medal of Arts from President Clinton at the White House. He returned to the White House in 2011 to receive the National Humanities Medal from President Obama. Also in 2011 he received the Man Booker International Prize. In 2002 he received the highest award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Gold Medal fiction. He twice has won the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award and three times the PEN/Faulkner Award. He also has won American PEN’s two highest awards: the PEN/Nabokov and PEN/Bellow awards.
