    Time: All Day

School of Visual Arts presents “Dressed for the Occasion: Ceremonial Costumes,” an exhibition of work by BFA Advertising and BFA Design students curated by Kevin O’Callaghan, chair of 3D Design. The exhibition is on view March 12 through April 11 at the SVA Gramercy Gallery, 209 East 23rd Street, New York City. Admission is free and open to the public.

For this exhibition, students were asked to design a ceremonial costume observing a significant anniversary in 2015. Their designs revisit cultural milestones, from the death of van Gogh (1890) and bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (1945) to the releases of the Slinky (1945) and Photoshop (1990).

“I’ve always been fascinated by both the craft and beauty of traditional tribal ceremonial wear,” O’Callaghan explains. “The exhibition gives a modern twist to how, in today’s world, the art student chooses both to celebrate and illustrate a moment in time.”
