Thousands of people work on Wall Street, coming from various backgrounds and parts of the country, but Julissa Arce is the only one who can say that during her time as a Vice President at Goldman Sachs she was an undocumented immigrant. Julissa started her life in Mexico, moved to Texas as a child, and dreamed all the while of becoming rich. When her visa expired she tried to find ways to stay in the country, going so far as to try to convince her family to let her be adopted by friends. Even without a social security number, she managed to get into college and into an internship at Goldman Sachs. All the while, she lived each day with the fear of being discovered and the regret of having crossed the border knowing that she might not see her gravely ill father again. Now that she’s left Wall Street, Julissa has become an advocate for rights for undocumented immigrants. She will be joined by award-winning writer and filmmaker Alberto Ferreras, who most recently directed HBO Latino's Habla y Vota, in the Rare Book Room as she discusses and signs her memoir, My (Underground) American Dream: My True Story as an Undocumented Immigrant Who Became a Wall Street Executive.
