Rite of Summer, now in its 6th year is a classical contemporary music festival, free to the public that presents many of New York’s best-known soloists and ensembles. These musicians, all of whom perform on some of the world’s most prestigious concert stages, are excited about reaching a more eclectic audience base on Governors Island. More than 70 percussionists will come together to perform John Luther Adams’s “Inuksuit,” an epic outdoor piece that has helped to redefine what live musical experience can be in the 21st-century. Led by Music Director Amy Garapic, The Inuksuit Band will include musicians from New York and beyond and will feature drummers Greg Saunier (Deerhoof) and Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), as well as members of many of NYCs top percussion groups and schools.
