Please join us for a film screening of Sacred Water and Red Power, two episodes from Viceland’s new series RISE that powerfully document and critically explore the political struggle at Standing Rock against the Dakota Access Pipeline. These films present incredible portraits of the leaders of the #NODAPL movement, contextualize the current struggle against the fossil fuel industry within Sioux history and politics, highlight ongoing state violence against Indigenous peoples in the United States, and raise fundamental questions about the role of Indigenous social movements in shaping our collective future. These are essential films for our time. Film screening followed by discussion and Q & A with: Michelle Latimer, RISE Director Mia White, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, The New School Elizabeth Ellis (Peoria), Penn Barra Post-Doctoral Fellow, University of Pennsylvania
