Two breakthrough Finnish designers from Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial will discuss their explorations of design, memory, and making with Triennial curator Andrea Lipps. Tuomas Markunpoika made his piece Engineering Temporality to honor his grandmother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. He welded steel rings over a traditional wooden cabinet and then burned away the wood, leaving behind a lacy shell of blackened metal. Kustaa Saksi creates sinuous textiles inspired by his memories of growing up in Kouvola, Finland. His Jacquard tapestry Reveille employs images of moths, bats, and celestial constellations to visualize the sleeping mind at the edge of waking up.See more cheap New York City events & things to do on Nifty NYC.
