While Kirsten Johnson may best be known for her acclaimed documentary cinematography with Laura Poitras (The Oath, Citizenfour), her directorial debut feature Cameraperson premieres in New York City as a part of the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Museum of Modern Art’s New Directors/New Films series this month. Drawing on footage she’s shot over the course of 25 years, Johnson searches to reconcile her part in the thorny questions of permission, power, creative ambition, and human obligation that come with filming the lives of others. Cameraperson premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and has since screened at True/False and SXSW.
