Big Ben, the Colosseum, the famed towers of Paris and Pisa…There’s much more to Europe’s architecture than just the popular landmarks we know from postcards. Dr. Janetta Rebold Benton, a Distinguished Professor of Art History at Pace University, explores the continent’s architectural accomplishments, from antiquity onward, as part of an ongoing Architectural Masterpieces series. In her Schimmel Center lectures, Benton will transport you to the Byzantine San Vitale and the Baroque Saint Peter’s in Italy. She’ll explore France’s Medieval churches and Renaissance chateaux. Turning her eye to England, she’ll examine Prehistoric Stonehenge and discuss English restraint and eccentricity. Benton’s fourth lecture takes on the global nature of recent architecture that crosses all geographic boundaries.
