Need a fresh source of inspiration this Christmas Eve? Indie pop/rock trio GrooveLily presents their secular holiday musical Striking 12 at New York City’s 54 Below. Co-written by Tony Award-winning playwright Rachel Sheinkin (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Striking 12 tells the story of a grumpy, overworked New Yorker who resolves to spend New Year’s Eve alone in his apartment when an unexpected visitor brings some much-needed cheer. It’s a unique modern-day fairy tale that collides with Hans Christian Andersen’s story of the Little Match Girl. Combining pop-rock, musical comedy and old-fashioned hope mixed with a healthy dose of 21st-century skepticism, Striking 12 weaves together three stories, set in contemporary NYC, 19th-century Denmark, and the bachelor’s living room.
