Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, the award-winning, Vermont-based Bread and Puppet Theater — famed for its powerful political imagery and larger-than-life papier-mache puppets — presents The Shatterer of Worlds (chapel with naturalization services for applicants requesting citizenship in the shattered world). This new show, aimed at an adult audience, features giant sculpture and dance in an avant-garde performance-art piece that explores the struggle between life and death, and the planet and humanity. Led by artist Peter Schumann, Bread and Puppet first made its mark in the experimental theater movement of the ’60s and ’70s in New York, and is now thriving at its home in Vermont, independently pursuing its twin goals of art and activism.
