Bass-baritone Evan Hughes joins music director Joshua Gerson and the New York Youth Symphony — celebrating its golden anniversary this year — for the world premiere of Natural Systems, a special piece commissioned from contemporary composer John Glover. Hughes is an up-and-coming opera star, who’s already performed on stage at the Met, and at prestigious festivals like Aspen, Castleton and Tanglewood. The New York Youth Symphony, with its talented young musicians ages 12 to 22, appears here 50 years after its debut at Carnegie Hall, which just happened to include a young Israeli violinist by the name of Itzhak Perlman. This Spring concert also features Mahler’s Titan symphony and Beethoven’s overture to the 1801 ballet The Creatures of Prometheus.
