Currently on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Sau-Wing Lam Collection of Rare Italian Stringed Instruments is one of the finest assemblies of super-rare musical instruments in the world. It includes handmade violins by Giuseppe Guarneri (the “Baltic”), Nicolò Amati (the “ex Collin”) and Antonio Stradivari (“del Gesù,” the “Bavarian” and “Scotland University” violins). Now, a selection of these extraordinary instruments will be played by New York’s dynamic young Salomé Chamber Orchestra and guest artists. This is a rare opportunity to “hear” art as these treasured, centuries-old instruments come to life with the works of Paganini, Saint-Saëns, Kreisler and others.
