At the latest meeting of the Thalia Book Club, a pair of acclaimed authors explore Ann Petry’s gritty, emotional 1946 classic. Sapphire (author of Push, filmed as Precious) and Sharifa Rhodes-Pitts (Harlem is Nowhere) will lead this probing discussion. Set in Harlem in the 1940s, The Street centers on the life of Lutie Johnson, a single black mother living on 116th Street. To help bring this classic to life, actress Roslyn Ruff (The Piano Lesson, The Help) will read an excerpt.
