National Scrabble Day
The Brooklyn Strategist (333 Court St., Brooklyn)

On April 13, 1899, little baby Alfie Butts was born. Decades later, Alfred Mosher Butts would invent a board game in his basement, a board game that has entertained, vexed, and challenged players for the last 80 years.

To celebrate the man and his game, April 13 has been declared National Scrabble Day, and this year we’re celebrating locally all day long at The Brooklyn Strategist in Carroll Gardens.

Come join us to play Scrabble against friends and strangers–all levels are welcome. Serious players can play with clocks and challenges, while novices are welcome to consult dictionaries. Plus, there’ll be outdoor play in the garden if weather permits.
