Symphony Space whisks you away to the lively streets of Harlem in the 1920s and ’30s. It was the time known as the “Harlem Renaissance” when the streets were filled with new styles of jazz and black writers of the neighborhood were inspired, leading to a flowering of African-American literature centering on this New York neighborhood. This edition of Selected Shorts pays tribute to one of the most famous figures of that time, Langston Hughes. Hughes’ short stories will be performed by actors from the stage and screen, including Sonia Manzano (Maria from Sesame Street), Colman Domingo (The Scottsboro Boys; Lincoln) and Daniel Breaker (Passing Strange; Shrek the Musical). The evening is hosted by actor BD Wong.
