The New York City Department of Consumer Affairs Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE) is excited to announce the Financial Empowerment Hackathon!!

Since our first Financial Empowerment Center opened in 2008, we have helped tens of thousands of New Yorkers reduce their debt by millions of dollars and take control of their finances. Centers offer free, one-on-one financial counseling across the five boroughs. To strengthen our work in financial education, we’re calling on developers and designers to help us create an app that will empower New Yorkers to achieve their financial goals. So join us on our two-day event to code and compete for cool prizes and a chance to help New Yorkers move forward financially.

Prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the weekend by a panel of judges that includes:
* Hrishi Dixit, Chief Technology Officer at LearnVest
* Phil Kim, Head of Capital One Labs NYC
* Jonathan Mintz, Commissioner, Department of Consumer Affairs
* Arnaud Sahuguet, Product Manager at Google.org
* Will Tucker, Vice President at ideas42

The team or individual who creates the winning app will receive $1,000; two second place winners will receive prizes of $500 each. Developers of all levels are welcome to attend, and can form teams at the start of the event.
