The New York Philharmonic salutes the Year of the Snake with a star-studded celebration of traditional Chinese music, dance and more with Herbie Hancock, guest maestro Long Yu and Metropolitan Opera favorite Ying Huang. The incomparable Hancock brings his prodigious piano skills and 14 Grammy Awards to the party, while the acclaimed Long Yu joins the symphony from his post as the artistic director and chief conductor of the China Philharmonic Orchestra and Beijing Music Festival. Soprano Ying Huang is set to appear with fellow sopranos Jennifer Johnson Cano and Yan Wang, as is the Snow Lotus Trio, a traditional performing ensemble of Tibetan sisters. This exciting evening of music also features works by Chinese composers Li Huanzhi, Chen Qigang and Ye Xiaogang, whose excerpt from The Song of the Earth makes its U.S. premiere.
