With his impressive lyrical dexterity and hard-hitting social commentary, Aesop Rock has been at the forefront of the alternative rap movement for more than a decade. He began his career in the late ’90s, and quickly earned a reputation for impossibly dense wordplay, cementing his status as a standard-bearer for intelligent hip-hop. After releasing several albums on the renowned Definitive Jux label, including 2003’s Bazooka Tooth and 2007’s None Shall Pass. he switched to Rhymesayers for 2012’s Skelethon, one of the year’s most critically acclaimed rap albums. The lineup at New York’s Irving Plaza also includes Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz, who joined Aesop Rock to release 2011’s Are You Gonna Eat That? under the name Hail Mary Mallon. Los Angeles’ Busdriver opens the show.
