United Noshes: DR Congo for World Food Day
Hostelling International NYC (891 Amsterdam Ave., Manhattan)
$15+ donation, registration required
In celebration of World Food Day, join us for the 47th meal of the United Noshes alphabetical journey through the cuisines of the United Nations members, and our largest yet!
We’ll be cooking a feast from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with both meat and vegetarian options likely including chicken in palmnut sauce, peanut stew, and fufu. It’s BYOB.
As always we’re raising money for the World Food Program USA, providing emergency food, food security and nutrition around the world including the DRC. Every dollar beyond the cost of the food goes straight to supporting this vital work, and in fact will be doubled by Google. We’re expecting this event to tip our total fundraising past the $10,000 mark! (Note that this ticket is not tax-deductible due to how we have to structure it to get the donation doubled. But you’re always welcome to make a tax-deductible donation directly to WFPUSA.)
Since the Brooklyn apartment where we normally host Noshes is a wee bit small for an event this size, the good people at Hostelling International New York have generously opened their kitchen and garden to us. (In the event of poor weather we’ll eat indoors.)
If you are from or have spent time in the DRC, we would appreciate whatever help you can lend to make this evening reflect your experience. And if you’re interested to volunteer as a cook, server, DJ, etc., we are eager for help! Please let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org.
