Artists Respond: Mark di Suvero
Building 110: LMCC’s Arts Center at Governors Island

Using the monumental sculptures of Mark di Suvero as a jumping off point, artist Dana Sherwood will conduct a literary reading tour with the aim of reflecting on the dynamic relationship that the works have in the natural landscape of Governors’ Island and the tension provoked by the merging of culture and nature in general. Participants will walk about the island pausing at five of di Suvero’s works where, after talking briefly about the sculpture, Sherwood will read a short passage from novels such as Against Nature and The Magic Mountain which deal with ideas of the natural vs. artificial worlds and have in turn inspired the work of many visual artists in recent years.
