The Politics of Presence
The Brecht Forum (451 West St., Manhattan)

Exhibit is open through July 31st

am a lawyer, artist and political activist working to integrate knowing and feeling and the personal/political. I work with found objects and original text to explore the “ordering of things”—how we attach meaning to “random” juxtaposition of objects—and “the order of things”—looking at the emotional roots of the world we create personally and politically. Much of what I do centers around childhood memories and experiences and is concerned with questions of cruelty: its source and transformation.

I present my work in conjunction with “Circles of Engagement,” a community building process that encourages and facilitates honest communication among participants. The experience of self, beyond social masks, deepens connections to both self and other, clearing the way for meaningful political discourse.
