On June 9th bring your homemade pie and your friends (they can vote!) to Smorgasburg for this contest. There will be a judges’ vote with great prizes, and a popular vote for the big prize. The Brooklyn Kitchen’s long-time pie teacher Millicent Souris (Queens Hideaway, Egg, The Roebling Tea Room) will lead the judging along with other pastry notables. The $5 entry fee gets you a 2-pound bag of Daisy flour (picked up at The Brooklyn Kitchen by June 8), which must be used in your crust. Attendees can taste pies and vote for $5, with additional votes priced at $1. All proceeds benefit the Greenpoint Soup Kitchen.
We are partnering with our favorite local flour mill, Daisy Flour in PA. Theirs is the oldest continuously operated mill in the US, ca 1765. The Annville Mill was flooded in the recent tropical storm Lee, and they are slowly rebuilding.
Want to compete? Aside from having the chance of winning the popular vote you also get to show off your flaky crusts and gooey fillings to a panel of distinguished judges.
- $5 to enter each pie, which must be a sweet pie. Register online in advance.
- Each contestant will get two pounds of Daisy Organic Pastry Flour to be picked up at The Brooklyn Kitchen by June 8th.
- Pie must be brought to The Brooklyn Kitchen’s booth at Smorgasburg (E. River Waterfront, btwn N. 6th and 7th Streets) by 2pm on June 9th. Votes can be purchased onsite at our booth.
