In this class you will learn how to read, write and pronounce the letters of the Cyrillic alphabet used in languages such as Russian, Ukrainian, Kazakh and Bulgarian. Basic familiarity with the alphabet is vital if you are traveling in Russia, parts of Eastern Europe and Central Asia or even just down to Brighton Beach. I will share Russian pronunciation tips, writing exercises, cultural background and a bit of history too. By the end of class we will be reading and properly pronouncing simple Russian words familiar to English-speaking ears such as passport, restaurant and toilet as well as penguin, humor and robot! Come and crack the code of Cyrillic – the first step in unlocking numerous rich and fascinating languages!
