Sunday, March 4th: Yevgeni Bauer’s ‘After Death’ with Live Score

musician Kevin Lynch (Strange Rivals, Grooms) will provide a uniquely brooding, romantic live score to Yevgeni Bauer’s After Death.

Infused with gothic-leaning symbolist influences, Bauer’s films represent some of the darkest, most accomplished psychological dramas of silent cinema. After Death, adapted from a story by Ivan Turgenev, concerns a student whose romantic fixation with a beautiful young stage actress deepens after her suicide. Bauer’s staple themes of decadence, obsession and death are expressed through intricately choreographed cinematography and rich mise-en-scène that a century on maintain the power to enrapture viewers.
