Thursday, March 1st: The Artist and Gallery Relationship

The Artist and Gallery Relationship
The B&H Event Space (420 9th Ave., Manhattan)

Brian Clamp, owner of ClampArt in Chelsea, and Frank Yamrus, one of the gallery’s artists, will use the backdrop of their successful seven-year relationship to discuss typical artist / gallery interactions including the nuts and bolts of the business, coordinating exhibitions, editing work, managing expectations, and balancing a business relationship with a friendship. Frank will discuss his strategies in seeking out representation for his work and how he built a successful network of photography professionals to sustain his 20-year career as an exhibiting artist. Brian will discuss his expectations when being approached by an artist, his process as he evaluates an artist’s work, and his strategies to create successful relationships with his artists. Together, Brian and Frank have over 40 years of art world experiences and stories to share. Event participants will attain a greater understanding of the artist / gallery relationship; they will learn the most effective presentation strategies and skills; and they will get a better picture of what to expect from a gallery when seeking representation.
