Spectacle Theater (124 S. 3rd St., Brooklyn)
Drugs, obsession and filmmaking – Zulueta’s eccentric, brooding and mysterious underground oddity was an early influence on Almodóvar but remains unknown outside Spain. A hallucinatory and claustrophobic story of a young film-maker who discovers his camera has a feature he never imagined. A different kind of love story. Zulueta was a promising young director who had to wait until the death of Franco to make Rapture. The film’s theatrical run was painfully brief. It has now acquired legendary cult status but is never seen.
