Inside This Place, Not Of It: Narratives from Women’s Prisons
Institute for Public Knowledge (20 Cooper Square, 5th Fl., Manhattan)
According to the Justice Department, the United States has the highest documented incarceration rate of any country in the world. People in U.S. prisons are routinely subjected to physical, sexual and mental abuse. While this has been documented in male prisons, women in prison often suffer in relative anonymity. Voice of Witness’ new book, Inside This Place, Not Of It, illuminates the experiences of incarcerated women in the US in an effort to address this critical social justice issue. The book is a forum for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women to share the stories that have previously been silenced.
