Saturday, December 17th: Free Bread Making Workshop

International Christmas in Harlem
La Marqueta (115th & Park Ave., Manhattan)
10am-5pm
Free

The Bread Houses Network represented by its founder, Princeton University anthropologist Nadezhda Savova, and Elizabeth Ryan, ecological farming activist and owner of Breezy Hill Farm orchards, invite families with children and people of all ages to come together around tables laid with candles and flour. Together we will learn to make and decorate Christmas breads from various countries around Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Russia) and Latin America (Mexico, Peru, and Puerto Rico) and decorate the East Harlem Christmas tree with small bagels and ginger bread dolls that we shall all make. As we bake bread in a unique, mobile traditional French wood-fire oven, Nadezhda will share stories of Christmas celebrations across different cultures.

This event will mark the official opening of a Bread Houses Network program at La Marqueta at Breezy Hill Farm’s location La Bodeguita, where we will hold collective bread-making events a few Saturdays of the month starting in February 2012.
