Wednesday, November 30th: Brainstorming Session For A 2012 Conference On Failure

Brainstorming Session For A 2012 Conference On Failure
WeCreate NYC (58 E. 11th St., 8th Fl., Manhattan)
7-9pm
Free, register here

You are invited to join the Social Innovators Collective and ioby for a brainstorming session on their failure conference slated for the end of 2012.

With everyone out to save the world, we thought it would be great to know what’s failed in the past. For those who want to take on the world’s most pressing problems, we think you’d rather focus your energies and creativity on finding solutions that will make a real difference – not travel over the charted territory which ended in failure.

We are looking for suggestions of speakers with deep knowledge of international development, global policy, politics, economics, literature, science and healthcare who will share stories of total failure with never before seen transparency.

“And why?” you may ask.

Half the planet’s wetlands and forests are gone. Species are going extinct 1,000 times faster than normal, a spasm of extinction that has not been witnessed since 65 million years ago when the dinosaurs disappeared. In the United States there are more black men in prison than were enslaved in 1850. The donor nation community has spent $2.3 trillion USD on foreign aid over the last five decades and yet 50% of the population does not have regular access to food or shelter. Many believe that the next world war will be fought over access to potable water. Most of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals have met more setbacks than progress. AND let’s not forget the gross mismanagement of donations to relief efforts for natural disasters such as the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004, Katrina and Haiti.

We are looking for talks and inspired speakers that will not only examine history’s failures, but most importantly shed light on the unsung heroes who are making a difference and demonstrating that true impact and change is possible.

We will also discuss possible formats, breakout sessions, corporate sponsors and other collaborators needed.

We will be contacting everyone before the session to find out about each of you and what you think are the essential ingredients of a failure conference – of epic proportions – that will leave people moved and inspired to get into action!

All are welcome.
