Phantom Attack of the Sith
Spectacle Theater (124 S. 3rd St., Brooklyn)
A departure from his typical work, experimental filmmaker Rob Todd created this film in an effort to redeem the Star Wars franchise. By editing down the entirety of the much-criticized Prequel Trilogy, Todd creates an “audience-cut” in which scenes of gratuitous violence and spectacle (which, in his words, were included “to sell toys”) are removed in favor of scenes that further the film’s plot. In total, he cuts almost half the footage from the films, reducing a nearly seven hour epic trilogy to a single long film. The truly remarkable thing about watching it is how little one notices the missing pieces.
