Stefan Merrill Block & Edmund White
WORD (126 Franklin St., Brooklyn)
7pm
Free

Stefan Merrill Block (Story of Forgetting) will read from his new novel The Storm at the Door. Inspired by elements of the lives of the author’s grandparents, the book tells the story of eccentric alcoholic Frederick, committed by his exasperated wife to a psychiatric facility in the 1960s, and his descent into the institution’s nightmarish rehabilitation processes. Block will be joined by acclaimed novelist and critic Edmund White (City Boy) reading from his newest novel Jack Holmes and His Friend (out in January 2012) which charts the sexual revolution, from both gay and straight perspectives, through a decades-long friendship between two men.
